Many of the Modules we have written about in this Article Category are classed as one of the following

Many Modules could also be classed as 'Adminitrator Modules' while retaining 'membership' of another Module type - though Administrator Modules are displayed within the Administrator Dashboard area of your website hence the classification - Administrator Module(s).

Only an Administrator will see the contents of Administrator Modules - when logged-in to the Administrator area.

Below we provide an introduction to these Administrator Modules - as well as corresponding help-links.

This article covers the following

Administrator Modules

Administrator Modules are setup in your site Administrator area to give you, your site Administrator, access to mostly everyday use.

Modules are a method of displaying content on your website.

The Help resource linked to below refers to the Atum Administrator Template - this is an Administrator Template that comes with your install of Joomla - however, you may have subsequently installed an alternative, that's fine - the concept still applies.

Administrator Modules - Toolbar

Your Toolbar Module shows the toolbar icons used to control actions.

In the list below not all Toolbar options will be available - what is available will depend on what type of item you have open, for example a Module or an Article

Below is an image is here showing a typical example of a Toolbar - what Toolbar items are available will depend on the type of item you have open:

  • Save
  • Save & Close
  • Save & New
  • Save as Copy
  • Close
  • Publish
  • Unpublish
  • Check-in
  • Trash
  • Batch
  • Duplicate
  • Version
  • Help

Save - this saves the item you currently have open and stays in the current screen.

Save & Close - this saves the item you are on and closes the current screen.

Save & New - this saves the item you are on and keeps the editing screen open and ready to create another item.

Save as Copy - this saves your changes to a copy of the current item. Does not affect the current item. This toolbar icon is not shown if you are creating a new item.

Close - this closes the current screen and returns to the previous screen without saving any modifications you may have made.

Publish - this makes the selected item available to visitors to your website (Published).

Unpublish - this makes the selected item unavailable to visitors to your website (Unpublished).

Check-in - this Checks-in the selected item(s). Check-in allows Administrators to perform a Global Check-in of all currently pending or locked items. This is of benefit if an Article or Module for example is locked by a User who opened it for editing and did not finish the editing session - in this case, other Users will not be able to edit this Article or Module for example. Performing a Global Check-in releases all such items from a Locked or Pending status. HelpHelp Global Check-in

Trash - this changes the status of the selected item(s) to indicate that it is (they are) trashed. HelpHelp Deleting an Article

Batch - Batch processes the selected item(s).

Duplicate - in effect the same as 'Copy' - this makes a copy of the selected item(s). The copy is created immediately and is given the same name as the original but suffixed with a number (for example "(2)") so that it can be distinguished from the original and any other copies.

Version - If Content Versioning is enabled this allows you to utilise that feature.

Help - this opens an appropriate help screen - typically within the Official Joomla Documentation.
